Edwards to Endorse Obama

Barack Obama's campaign is touting a "major endorsement" of his candidacy tonight and the endorser is former Sen. John Edwards, according to sources close to the former North Carolina senator and the Obama campaign.Mr. Edwards, who dropped out of the race for the Democratic nomination Jan. 30, placed second in the Iowa caucuses in early January and was a favorite of the party's liberal wing. In West Virginia, where he appeared on the ballot, and Sen. Hillary Clinton won in stunning fashion, Mr. Edwards garnered 7% of the vote - a surprise for a candidate who dropped out of the race before "Super Tuesday" voting in early February.Campaign spokeswoman Jen Psaki said Mr. Edwards will join Sen. Obama at his Grand Rapids, Mich., rally where he will announce his endorsement.Mr. Edwards could give a boost to Obama's candidacy by attracting the exact sort of voter that has been Sen. Clinton's strength - white, working-class voters from rust-belt states who are drawn to a populist political philosophy but have mostly rejected the senator from Illinois. Sen. Clinton, vastly outgunned in delegate count and popular vote by Sen. Obama has nonetheless kept her candidacy alive by arguing - somewhat successfully - that such voters will be crucial in November.

Before North Carolina, his endorsement for either candidate would have had some impact, now he is only one ordinary Superdelegate, who did not have the guts to stand up for one candidate when the going was tough. On the other hand, Edwards was not able to make a splash in the primaries and failed to bring even his homestate in for Kerry in 2004, left alone any other southern state.
This is not an endorsement to be proud of, especially since he was way closer to Clinton for a long time that to Obama. Obama's health care plan is a joke and he vigorously refused to take up any of Edwards pet projects, like to end poverty, so this endorsement does not make any sense at all, other than soften the blow of the resounding defeat in West Virginia, where Obama failed to win just ONE district.
It is a pity that Edwards dropped out so early, because he would have harmed Obama more than Hillary. Or to put it the other way round; Obama profited most by Edwards dropping out.
Go Obama Go
Yes, we can.........
I will say, personally, I think Edwards is as phony as they come and was only holding out for a V.P. position regardless of who gave it to him, but there are people who think he is the greatest thing since sliced bread; so whatever.
Good idea, let's nominate the weakest link. Then he can join McGovern, Dukakis, Mondale, Gore, and Kerry in the elitist losers club. We can throw Edwards in there as well...he lost with Kerry, then again in the primary.
I don't like Edwards that much. He came across as oily, phoney and ridiculous. A millionaire laywer who poses as a working class hero. His attacks on Hillary in the debates in New Hampshire and South Carolina were meanspirited. I mean, a has-(not-really-)been calls Clinton 'Status Quo'! He was so over, right ffrom the beginning.
Nevertehless, his endorsement would have helped in North Carolina. After North Carolina, his usefullness is reduced to the 18 delegates he managed to win and to make a headline for Obama-under-pressure.
He had some demands and Clinton fulfiled them.
He and his wife talked to both candidates and the rumour was that Clinton did far better in negotiating.
Elizabeth Edwards lauded Hillary's health care plan, so all signs said that they would rather endorse her than him or that the couple would split, she endorsing Hillary, he endorsing Obama.
After months of flirting, he finally jumps on the seemingly winning bandwagon, blowing his chance to act as elder statesman at the convention. Instead of sticking out his head and reputation when the outcome was open, he decides to join the presumed winner. THAT I call cowardice.
It would be nice if the Obama administration would repeal or amend the Patriot act, bring troops home, stop illegal wire-tappings, etc. But I doubt that he will reduce the power that Bush and Cheney has given to future presidents; why would he?
I honestly doubt that he is going to help our economy, but he will further erode our Constitution.
We don't go out much; I have a grocery store literally like a half a block or less from our apartment, and our rent is pretty cheap; $395 a month. Electric is high for an 2 bedroom apartment that has less than 900 square feet, at $70-90 a month, but I've cut out using the oven: I microwave or electric skillet everything (no frozen foods; all recipes for those items) and I keep the air where it only kicks in if it's above 78 in here: we use fans.
We don't go out much: maybe 6 times a year or something like that: unless its' something free. The internet and Netflix are our sources of entertainment: we don't buy cable. We have a car payment: of $250 a month, too. But we're really good with our money, like I said: we just try not to spend much on anything except food, and I've cut out driving except when I need to, although my husband's work is across town: we have a Saturn, so it's gets decent gas mileage: I only have to fill it up once a week or less: at $28 or so per time.
Edwards is now showing a clear lack of judgement--Hey they have alot in common!!!!
