Clinton Sees Many Reasons to Stay In
Added 629 days ago on May 21st, 2008
Rebuffing associates who have suggested that she end her candidacy, Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton has made it clear to her camp in recent days that she will stay in the race until June because she believes she can still be the nominee - and, barring that, so she can depart with some final goals accomplished.
Mrs. Clinton has disagreed with suggestions, made directly to her by a few friends recently, that her continued candidacy was deepening splits within the Democratic Party and damaging Senator Barack Obama's chances of emerging as a formidable nominee. She has also disputed the notion that, by staying in, she was unintentionally fostering a racial divide with white voters in some states overwhelmingly supporting her.
Rather, in private conversations and in interviews, Mrs. Clinton has begun asserting that she believes sexism, rather than racism, has cast a shadow over the primary fight, a point some of her supporters have made for months. Advisers say that continuing her candidacy is partly a means to show her supporters - especially young women - that she is not a quitter and will not be pushed around.
Campaigning in New Hampshire and Indiana this year, Mrs. Clinton endured taunts from passers-by who questioned her abilities because she is a woman and mocked her husband's affair with a White House intern. Yet Mrs. Clinton has also benefited from the strong support of white voters in many states, including some who have said that race was a factor in their support.
Campaigning with his wife in Kentucky on Tuesday, former President Bill Clinton also w

Re: Clinton Sees Many Reasons to Stay In
The only way to unite and legitimize the Democratic Nomination is to make every voice and vote count. This is not what the Democratic Party was founded on.

Re: Clinton Sees Many Reasons to Stay In
Why have republicans been so silent about Mrs. Clinton's experience? Have they just forgotten the painful Clinton years? Here IS the way it IS. The premise that Hillary is a viable candidate is false. Consider the sources: Carl Rove, mainstream media...On and on the tv pundits credit HC this and HC that... Many cannot perceive that the pundits are lying to forward their agenda. Republicans after winning two contestable general elections are blatant about skewing the vote. i.e. We're well aware of the "Vast right wing conspiracy" That Mrs. Clinton identified last century. In 2008 the "vast right wing conspiracy" has taken the form "Chos of the right" i.e.vote for Hillary to help McCain.Estimates according to a google search conclude that 7 percent of Mrs Clintons votes are by McCain supporters. Republicans know full well that "her record" can very easily be challenged to their advantage. As Hillary often touts her experience, and has less years of elected service than Barack Obama she must be referring also to her experience as First Lady. As a Democrat I supported the Clintons in the '90s. When Hillary vowed to resolve the health care issue I was very hopeful. Unfortunately she failed to accomplish any change. . Nor has she passed any significant legislation as Senator. As an Arkansas CORPORATE lawyer, Hillary's solutions to health care issue meant protecting the profits of the insurers. Added to that the Clinton era was bombarded with hearings and lawsuits: Arkansas gate, travel gate to zipper gate adnauseam.. Bill Clinton's law license was suspended because of perjury and he was impeached by the House. America was sick of them. We felt cheated. If Hillary were elected the divisivness no doubt would continue with renewed attacks against the Clinton's and their business dealings since office. Most importantly, the Clinton's were so distracted with the constant personal attacks that they were unable to effectively deal with the bombings of the USS Cole and in Africa. They missed a critical opportunity to catch BinLaden. The status quo that favors, earmarks and subsidies to Corporations would remain unchanged under Clinton. America cannot afford this war and the policies that promote corporate pillaging.
Yet she brags about being a fighter. Puckish fighter indeed! (For the Republicans.) Hillary's attacks on the front runner Barack Obama are damaging the Democaratic party. Hillary's abysmal low blows show that she will say and do anything for votes.
So the reporters keep repeating she is fighter. She is ahead in the popular...The Clinton count with MI and Fl demonstates another HC character flaw: that she quite comfortable with cheating. The DNC needs to get tough and put and end to Mrs. Clinton's delusions.
Frequently on television I hear celebrities say that the Democratic candidates are essentially the same. Such passivity on the part of those given a voice and large audience is so infuriating. Hillary and Barack are fundamentally different in their view and approach to solving America's huge problems at this critical time in our Nation's history. In marked contrast, Barack Obama* is a Constitutional scholar. (Hillary flunked the bar in NY.) Barack Obama's career choices led him to work with the poor of all colors and help the disenfranchised. Because of Barack's great leadership, Democratic registration has doubled in some regions. I have no doubt that Barack Obama is in touch with the people.
I urge everyone considering Hillary to ask themselves: Why did she fail miserably on her promise of resolving health care? Her judgement on Iraq? Over 600 corporations are in Iraq and paid with our tax dollars. Sixty percent of corporations do not pay any taxes.* Fooled me once, Hillary, But not twice!

Re: Clinton Sees Many Reasons to Stay In
Obama is the weaker candidate. Exit polls have been most revealing, it is unfortunat that Superdelegates are not doing what they are supposed to do and that would be to vote their conciense. Fear is taking the better part of them. The fear of overturning the results when he never achieved the needed pledged delegates without the help of the S.D. This is not about Hillary or Obama, this is about who can come on top come November.

Re: Clinton Sees Many Reasons to Stay In
Obama is a 2 year Senator and 1 year of that has been running for President, ? How is he an inexperienced freshman Senator going to get America back on track with a lot of pretty words? Get rid of Obama's pretty speeches and what do you have. Not much, just a lot of hot air. And some one else's views, that he copied from Hillary to give him another edge in this election. He is making his plans up as he goes along and they change daily.
Over the last Three months I have watched Obama change his views like he changes his pants. What he thinks the American people want to hear is what his view is today. The most recent example is the back and forth mud slinging between Obama and McCain. First Obama in a town meeting states "Iran, Cuba ect... are just little countries they are not a big threat" Then yesterday Obama said " Iran is a huge threat" One news commentator made sense last night, (God bless him) when he said " If I am holding a sawed off shot gun to one side of your head and a 22 pistol to the other side, one is smaller but they can both kill you" I guess I am Clinging to my guns and my religion by repeating that....God Bless America..... Well let me take a minute to go open my chicken house door so my chickens can come home to rooooooooooost.

Re: Clinton
Mrs. Clinton needs to bow out gracefully.

She is faltering in every measurement there is in this race - she has less Superdelegates that Senator Obama, she has less DNC member endorsements than Obama, she has less U.S. Senator backing than Obama, she has less U.S. Representatives backing Obama, she is losing in the national polls to Senator Obama -- and despite the denial of her supporters here -- she agreed to Governor Dean's rules on Michigan and Florida - www.youtube.com/watch?v=KmUVr_Qt2Wg

Clinton is not only damaging the Democratic Party, but she is damaging the family name once revered by Democrats.

Re: Clinton Sees Many Reasons to Stay In
I heard there is a very controversial tape that the Republicans have. It is of Obama's wife. It may not be Obama, but a potential first lady saying some hateful things about white people. What will we do as Democrats if this is dropped in October? I don't think people have a tolerance for a first lady with potty mouth? Any response, to the swiftboating coming up? How will Obama DIVORCE his wife? I really SEE Hillary as the UNITER, not BO. Hillary stay in, the Dems are headed for an embarassing defeat.

Re: Clinton Sees Many Reasons to Stay In
Do we really want another year 2000? This time it would be at the hands of our own party not counting all the votes! Wow, talk about a losing combination, Obama and all votes not counted, for the fall. I know I will not support Obama. Yes, we women and many men by and large will vote for anyone but Obama. America faces the most difficult times in our nation and we don't want, need, or can we handle a controversial, questionable, rookie to lead "US" into these, the most critical times of any Presidency to date. Go Hillary, and please far left wing, wake up!!! Comparing the bases of support Clinton is far and away the best candidate for the Democrats in the fall. Otherwise, we lose again!!!
Thank you, Mary

Re: Clinton Sees Many Reasons to Stay In
The voters are the innocent party in this mess that the Republicans in Florida created when they moved both primaries before th Feburary 5th starting line. The results of Florida are uncontested. The ballots were faultless, the results were faultless. Florida has a delegate problem, not a vote problem, so let us first of all count the votes in Florida.

People claim that you can't count Michigan, because Obama was so boneheaded as to take his name off the ballot. His mistake, if you ask me. He can split the uncommitted voters with Edwards, if he likes.

What about the delegates? I think that taking away all the delegates was and is too hard. taking away 50% seems to be right. Unless they take away the delegates of the other early starters IOWA, NEVADA, NEW HAMPSHIRE and SOUTH CAROLINA.

Clinton fought hard for the votes in Florida and Michigan to be counted, while Obama ridiculed the voters and the results. What is more uniting, what is more divisive?

Democrats want to win in November and snubbing Florida and Michigan are the first steps towards a landslide defeat.

Re: Clinton Sees Many Reasons to Stay In
COUNT EVERY VOTE!
The "make every vote count" statement and its duplicity is why Clinton is viewed unfavorably by nearly half the nation. The reality is the Clinton camp means "Make every vote count except those in Michigan that indicated their preference for Obama by voting undeclared. Make every vote count except for Obama's votes in the caucaus states." Do you remember how Hilary said how important it was to keep Iowa and New Hampshire in their premier place in the primary calendar? If she praised FL and MI as she now is the NH voters would have turned on her. Do you remember how she agreed to the rules when she was sure she would win? Now that she is loosing she says lets change the rules for the good of the party. Another duplicitous remark, change the rules for the good of Hilary is what she wants. Go ahead Clinton supporters; continue your desire to make every vote count, but at least be honest enough to sincerely count every vote, Obama's Michigan tally and his Caucus states totals must also be counted. If not then slogan should be "Let's count only the disputed Hilary voted and not the Obama votes so Hilary can claim a pyrrhic victory."

Hillary Clinton is the most experienced, the most qualified and the most electable candidate. Hillary Clinton should continue to stay in the presidential race because she has the real solutions to tackle all the problems that we, all Americans, are facing now. As a Hillary supporter, I have great confidence in her that she will do the best job as a president. Hillary Clinton is a winner. Hillary Clinton has great attributes - knowledge, wisdom, courage, dedication, caring, resiliency, great knowledge of foreign affairs e,t,c. All Americans should support Hillary Clinton because the future of our great nation is in her hands. She is a great asset to our nation. It is very tragic that the media has treated her harshly. The media needs to be fair and not biased. The media is doing a great injustice to all Americans by being unfair to Hillary Clinton. I am appealing to all Hillary supporters to continue to give her support. Let us volunter to make phone calls, to contribute money e.t.c to help Hillary Clinton win the three remaining state primaries. If we do our part, Hillary Clinton will become the next U.S President. We should not let anything stop us from supporting Hillary Clinton.

Re: Clinton Sees Many Reasons to Stay In
she talks so much about every vote should count, well my parents in Florida were going to vote for Obama but was told that it wouldn't count so they didn't, how many more people did the same? For what I know, Clinton told all her supporters to go anyways, she knew she would bring it up later on. Is what Clintons do, play unfair. She wants to talk about every vote counting, but doesn't want to give a single vote for Obama in Michigan. How desperate. This lady needs help. She lost already!!!!

Re: Clinton Sees Many Reasons to Stay In
If you tried to move your primary up, you've lost all your delegates. Florida and Michigan did it, they lost all their delegates. The Clinton campaign put out this statement: "We believe Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada and South Carolina play a unique and special role in the" nomination "process." "We believe the DNC's rules and its calendar provide the necessary structure to respect and honor that role. Thus, we will be signing the pledge to adhere to the DNC approved nominating calendar."

Re: Clinton Sees Many Reasons to Stay In
Senator HRC didn't seem to worry too much about the voters in MI and FL when she agreed that their votes would not count according to party rules. She signed away those states without so much as a second thought. She publicly stated that 'those votes don't matter'. However now she needs you, it's all spaniel eyes and crocodile tears over the poor abused electorate, deprived of their voice by the evil machinations of the establishment. The voters in those states were disenfranchised by their own political leaders, not team Obama. The rules may not be perfect but everyone knew what they were before the start. To change them now to the detriment of one party or another would be a travesty.

I'd hate to play soccer against the Clintons, they'd kick the ball out of touch and claim it as a home run!

Re: Clinton Sees Many Reasons to Stay In
From Scotland, I've been studying this strange & complex process for the 1st time in my life. There's truth in what Hillary says about voters in Florida & Michigan not having
their votes count towards delegates - it's not their fault - they voted at the time allowed.
However, I thought she was an intelligent person.
Even awarding the delegates from these 2 States (and with a higher 'finishing line')
Barack would still be about 140 dels ahead, needing just over 100, with just over
200 superdels to pledge, many of whom have said they'll vote with the people rather
than abusing their super-vote. Of the 2 States to go, Barack will take half of the 31 dels at least. I'm sure he'll get his share from the 'Protectorate' islands & Dems Abroroad.
So, Hillary, crunch the numbers, stop begging Americans' money on your website to waste on campaigning and get behind the campaign for Presidency.
It's as important to people in my part of the World as it is to yours.

Re: Clinton Sees Many Reasons to Stay In
To the person that speaks about the tape that is suppose to be out with Michelle speaking about white people in a negative way. 1) Do you have proof of that? 2) If she was telling the truth, then it really doesn't matter to me if she is talking about blacks, whites, hispanics or anyone else, as long as it it the truth, I can deal with that.

We have all gone through some racial hardtimes in this country and we ought to not be penalized for saying so. However, hopefully, we can take it and learn from it and become better people. Michelle is black, I expect her coversations to be from the black perspective. However, I have no boubt in my mind that Michelle is geniune and love all people, even though she is aware that we all have our differences.

Your hopes may turn out to be nothing, if it is something we are adult enough to deal with it. The republicans will not SCARE our VOTEs to their side and we stand firmly with Obama and Michelle regardless to what comes out during the General election.

McCain has a record that will make white, blacks, and hispanic puke with the stentch. So I am not afraid of what they say about Michelle or Obama for that matter during the general. There is something far greater important to me than personal attacks, period.

I may say something not so nice about a black person depending on what has happened that day, but I surely do not hate black people in general. So I can and will get over whatever the 30 spot will be and they will see a backlash this year like never before in history.

If she is all of that, why in the Hell is she losing? Your logic is rediculous! She will get the FL and MI delegates, then she can hit the road because the SD will rally around the person with the most pledged delegates and close this race.

Pledge delegates have chosen our nominees for many years now, it even chose Bill Clinton, now in 2008 you want to change the rules because another Clinton is running for the WH.

You and those that support such an unfair system should be shame of every being called Americans. The you attempt to project the blame on Obama because he wouldn't simply lay down and let the Clintons' walk over him on this issue.

Neither would you allow them to walk over you, if you were in this race.

Get over it, she will be out on Wednesday morning, guaranteed.

So because you believe Clinton should be the candidate the super delegates aren't voting their conscious? Please... give me a break. These polls are so one sided it's hilarious. I noticed while sleeping with the enemy that on hillary's site you people make it a habit to come here make up these polls and then say..."see i told you so" She cannot beat Barack but She can beat McCain who according to her cannot beat McCain. Does that make sense to hillary supporters?
