Democratic panel set to resolve Clinton-Obama delegate dispute
Added 827 days ago on May 29th, 2008
The last Democratic presidential primaries take place Tuesday, but an obscure panel of 30 party insiders now finds itself in the strongest position to determine whether the long nominating process will come to a smooth conclusion.
Meeting at a Washington hotel Saturday, the party's Rules and Bylaws Committee will attempt to settle a lingering dispute about whether delegates from Michigan and Florida should be seated at the party's convention in August.
Both campaigns and thousands of voters have been lobbying the committee members, who are used to working in anonymity. E-mail messages are flooding in. The 500 tickets set aside for spectators were snapped up within three minutes on the Internet.
At stake are the 368 delegates from Michigan and Florida, who were disqualified because those states held their primaries in January, earlier than allowed by party rules. Under the outcome Hillary Rodham Clinton has called for in recent weeks, she would pick up 111 more delegates than Barack Obama. That would narrow his lead in the delegate count and might position Clinton to argue to the party's superdelegates that they should throw the nomination to her.
But there is little support on the committee for giving the New York senator everything she wants. That leaves the panel with a second challenge: bringing Clinton, Obama and Democratic officials together in an agreement that unites the party and keeps bruised feelings to a minimum.

Re: Democratic panel set to resolve...
By making a decision that weighs in, the DNC will further divide the party. Since they are going to allow FL and MI back in, might as well not taint the formula. It would seem to me that even if all the delegates are seated, it would require the Superdelegates to make the final decision as to who would ultimately be nominated.

Howard Dean is being overruled by his own people.
Obama's decision to not enter these primaries is now showen to be wrong.
The party leadership and front runner look like fools and Clinton has been right all along.

Excellent point, either count it or just don't count it. Their is no point in counting it in a specific way to yield the desired result. By counting any part of it is admitting to a mistake, so if that is the case count all of it just the way the voters wished it. By doing so, you're pushing it back to S.D. to make the ultimate decision.

To the DNC and Howard Dean this is " PHONY" They have KNOWN SINCE Sept 2007 that they were going to " Cherry Pick " . In this video you can clearly hear Donna Brazile say while addressing the Black Congressional Caucus " With our 45 delegates , IF YOU THINK WE DON"T HAVE THE POWER TO PICK OUR NOMINEE, JUST WATCH it's clear they planned on Stealing this ELECTION .. Go too www.countthevotescast.org/tvad.php
Run out the first one , afterwards a list of videoa appears choose the fourth one Called "" FRACTURED FAIRY TALES, in chapter 2 it has several thing said byDonna Brazile , so she goes on these shows " This Week on the "Round Table" and CNN the Best Political Team and tells BOLD FACE LIES>>>>>>> The DNC will feel te WRATH COME NOVEMBER, Do the Super Delegates and the rest every read these articles, do they really believe that Americans are STUPID OR BLINDED as they are, is American going to allow this.....?????????????

Re: Democratic panel set to resolve...
Didn't know how to vote for this. I think too much has happened and the Party is divided. They can unite if the votes are counted as is. Obama broke the rules by campaigning in both states and then failed to work toward resolutions when the Clinton camp offered to pay for a revote. He also chose to take his name off the ballot to gain political advantage in Iowa. He broke the rules, the voters did not. Seat the delegated and count the votes and the SD's must start demonstrating leadership qualities!!

Since this is the nomination of the DEMOCRATIC PARTY, the decision has to be made by the Party and that is by superdelegates. They are the insiders who should have superior knowledge, they are the ones who have more information and less emotional attachment to one or the other candidate, they should be imune to hype, propaganda and ranting.

And in the end, they are the ones who have to work with the future president. Count Florida and Michigan the way they voted and take this to the convention floor. And fix the system for 2012 e.g. get rid of caucuses. And procentual allocation only if at least three candidates are still running, otherwise do winner takes all.
