Climate talks bigger threat to Saudi than oil rivals
Added 225 days ago on January 28th, 2010
United Nations climate talks are a bigger threat to top oil exporter Saudi Arabia than increased oil supplies from rival producers, its lead climate negotiator said on Sunday.
Saudi Arabia's economy depends on oil exports so stands to be one of the biggest losers in any pact that curbs oil demand by penalizing carbon emissions. "It's one of the biggest threats that we are facing," said Muhammed al-Sabban, head of the Saudi delegation to U.N. talks on climate change and a senior economic adviser to the Saudi oil ministry. [...] Climate talks posed a bigger threat, Sabban said, and subsidies for the development of renewable energy were distorting market economics in the sector, he said.
Presumably because of the Citizens United ruling, Saudi Arabian-owned subsidiaries operating in the United States can now spend unlimited amounts advocating the defeat of candidates who support clean energy legislation.

Actually, you should ask mthat question of the Democrats. They have blocked Offshore Drilling since the Department of Energy was formed by Carter. The real threat to Saudi Arabia is the our Oil reserves, which several times as large as theirs, would flood the Market. The Dems will see to it that that doesn't happen. Hurry and copy this before I'm banned from the site.
