Tax Rates Have Fallen The Most For The Richest Americansi.huffpost.com

huffingtonpost.com — It pays to be rich. Literally.

Since Bill Clinton's first term, taxes have fallen the most for the wealthiest Americans. Federal tax rates plunged 9.4 percent between 1995 and 2007 for the top 0.01 percent of households, according to the Economic Policy Institute.

In comparison, tax rates for the top 1 percent fell 6.6 percent, and tax rates for most Americans -- households between the 20th percentile and 99th percentile in income -- fell just 2.9 percent.

Taxing the rich has become a flashpoint on the campaign trail. Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney has proposed extending all of the Bush tax cuts, which largely benefit the richest Americans, while cutting tax rates further and eliminating inheritance taxes, according to the Associated Press. President Obama, on the other hand, has proposed the "Buffett rule," which would levy a minimum tax on the wealthiest Americans -- though it failed in the Senate in a 51-45 vote because of a Republican filibuster.

Should taxes on the richest Americans be placed back at Clinton levels, tax cuts for the middle class or should the richest Americans get a tax cut and the middle class a tax hike?
Rich: tax hike, Middle class: tax cut
67%
Rich: tax cut, Middle class: tax hike

How about first asking the 47% of Americans who pay NO 0 zilch nada of their income in federal taxes to pay at least a tiny (say 5%) percentage. That would bring in far more than the few "rich" you want to demonize.
I feel that if someone doesn't pay federal taxes they should not be allowed to vote in federal elections. America was founded on no taxation without representation. Well if you don't want to contribute even a tiny amount to interstate roads and the protection of the country and federal courts then you should not be allowed to vote.
People who don't pay voting will always vote for others to pay more so they can "get" more.
How selfish!

How about cutting taxes across the board and reducing spending back to the Reagan years or less? Cut out all the class warfare crap and unite the country? Give welfare leeches a hand up instead of the democRAT handout. Shouldn't EVERYONE have to pay at least something in taxes as a requisite for being allowed to vote?

The liberal UTOPIA is not working!!!!!!

@grandmakdw I have no problem with that at all but lets be honest, many of those Americans wouldn't pay much in taxes at all. Many of whom are on welfare, live in low income housing or even have placed much of their money overseas.

@lastbaldeagle Let's be realistic here. During the Reagan years taxes was still raised when he did cuts. Btw, the neoconservative UTOPIA of the Bush years is what got us into this mess in the first place.

So then AU you are saying that 47% of all Americans are too poor to pay any taxes, are probably on welfare and in low income housing? If so what the h... has happened to our country in the past 3 years?
