Why Democrats think they can retake the House in 2014
Made popular 121 days ago in
Opinion
theweek.com —
Two-term presidents historically suffer from voters' six-year itch, when the president’s party loses a substantial number of House and Senate seats after a half dozen years in office.
But Democrats think it might be different in 2014.
National Journal obtained a confidential memo from Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee Chairman Steve Israel (D-N.Y.) which argues that his party is in a much stronger political position to start the 2014 campaign than in either of the last two cycles.
Israel directly rebuts the conventional wisdom that House Republicans have a near-lock on their majority at least until the next redistricting of congressional seats in 10 years.
Writes Israel: "Redistricting has empowered the worst elements of the Republican Party, amplifying the extremist echo chamber and making the tea party Republican congress toxic to voters. Republicans redrew already-safe members into even more Republican districts, driving control of their party more to their base, forcing more primaries, and making it less likely that they can put forward a party agenda that appeals to Independents."
Democrats, who won a net eight seats last year, need to win 17 more to retake control of the House. It’s a tough goal but, they are energized with new promises from President Obama to raise money, campaign vigorously, and even help recruit candidates.

Again Republicans have nothing to offer,
Had it not been for the redistricting sham Republicans would not stand a chance.

@Free ...And the dumbocraps have a lot to offer. Like poverty, food stamps, high taxes, loss of freedom, stupidity, washingtoon gridlock, voting down everything that makes sense. The list is endless.
Nice try but isn't going to happen. Nasty is a lamebrain and needs to be put into a home.
pull your head out. Free to be dumb.

Free, please get yourself committed. Even with your lying media cronies and the president also lying with every comment he makes there can't be that many low information, low intelligence and low ambition voters to carry the day for the democrat party. People should begin to connect the dots from the out of sight gas prices to the inflation in groceries, heat, and everything that need to move in this country that has been severely damaged by the president and the other socialists in Congress with their risky policies. Where was the outrage from you lefties when the rats held state power and used their gerrymandering tactics? Almost impossible to elect a Republican in my old state of Illinois and we know which set of crooks has run that state for years, Kalifornia is another. Seems you are wearing your party blinders. If we had an honest media who were as critical of the wonderful young president as they were of George W. Bush Obama would have been impeached in his first term. I'm sure your voting fraud tactics more than balance any advantage the Republicans gained through redistricting.

PURCHASING NEW BRAINS
A mid-level executive was so frustrated at being passed over for promotion year after year,
that, in frustration, he went to a brain-transplant center in the hope of raising his I.Q. 20 points.
After a battery of physical and psychological tests, he was told by the center's director that he was an acceptable candidate.
"That's great!" the executive said. "But I understand that this procedure can be really expensive."
"Yes, sir, it can," the director replied. "An ounce of accountant's brain for example,
costs one thousand dollars; an ounce of an economist's brain costs two thousand;
an ounce of a corporate president's is forty-five thousand. An ounce of a Democrat's brain is seventy-five thousand dollars."
"Seventy-five thousand dollars for an ounce of a Democrat's brain? Why on earth is that?"
"Do you have any idea," the director asked, "how many Democrats we would have to kill?"

Obama has no coattails and he is not interested to help any candidate, except himself, so, no money, no support (not that it would help a lot...). People were not really pleased with Obama in 2012 and that will not change much in 2 years, so voters will - deservedly or undeservedly - take their revenge on the Democratic candidates.
But it is not a given. If Republicans run riot and promote the image of "I'm against it, no matter what", people might give them a whipping at the mid-term elections. Congress has to start working, both sides.
