Media Protect Obama By Ignoring Gasoline Price Risestrangepolitics.com

news.investors.com — Bias: As of Tuesday, U.S. gasoline prices had increased for 32 straight days. The media, however, aren't interested. They would be, though, if a Republican — particularly a Bush — were in the White House.
According to the American Automobile Association, the average price of a gallon of regular gasoline was $3.748 Tuesday, up from $3.730 on Monday and about 15 cents higher than a week ago.
A month ago that same gallon cost $3.304 and a year back it was $3.565. It was $1.83 a gallon the day before Obama was first inaugurated.
The media are providing a smattering of coverage of the rising prices. But the press is more concerned about President Obama's golf outing with Tiger Woods than it is about gasoline prices. And it sure isn't interested in blaming Obama for the rise.
America's media are offended by high gasoline prices only during a Republican's watch, and acutely so when that member of the GOP is an oil man, such as either president named George Bush.
Here's the history: The Media and Business Institute of the Media Research Center says that from Jan. 18 through Feb. 5, at which time prices had jumped 24 cents, the Big 3 networks had devoted an entire combined eight minutes of air time to the climbing prices.
George W. Bush never enjoyed that protection from the media.
"Although the national average climbed to $3.56 on Feb. 20, setting a February record after going up nearly a month straight," the Media and Business Institute reported a year ago, "there was far less coverage than in 2008." Yet, "Broadcast networks repeatedly covered the rise under the Bush presidency."
In March of last year, the Washington Post tried to explain "Why Obama gets less blame than Bush for high gas prices."
"Voters," according to the Post, "are far less likely to blame Obama for skyrocketing fuel costs than they were President Bush six years ago."
Why? "To begin with," said the Post, "Bush was simply less popular."
Yes, of course. Less popular. And how did that happen? Is it possible that the media had poisoned the public's mind about Bush while holding up Obama as the highest example of all things great and good?
Not only is it possible, it's a certainty.
How many members of the media, for instance, have said Bush was "sort of god" "standing above the country, above the world," as Newsweek editor Evan Thomas rapturously described Obama in 2009?

Grandpa's Check
Without any paperwork, Grandpa started getting a $500 check every month. So, Grandpa and Grandma started cashing them.

It turns out the government made a mistake with the address; the checks were intended for another person with the exact same name.

Grandpa then received a notice that he had to pay back $6,000. Visibly upset, he complained to his grandson, an accountant.

His grandson asked: "Grandpa, didn't you wonder why you were receiving checks for doing absolutely nothing?"

Grandpa answered: "I just assumed it was because the Democrats were back in power."

My dog sleeps about 20 hours a day. He has his food prepared for him. He can eat

whenever he wants, 24/7/365. His meals are provided at no cost to him. He visits the

doctor once a year for his checkup, and again during the year if any medical needs arise.

For this he pays nothing and nothing is required of him. He lives in a nice neighborhood

in a house that is much larger than he needs, but he is not required to do any upkeep. If

he makes a mess, someone else cleans it up. He has his choice of luxurious places to

sleep. He receives these accommodations absolutely free. He is living like a king, and

has absolutely no expenses whatsoever. All of his costs are picked up by others who go

out and earn a living every day. I was just thinking about all this, and suddenly it hit me

like a brick in the head, “Holy S#!t, my dog is a democrat!”

Gas Prices Soar 51 Cents in Just Two Months
Consumers are taking another huge hit in 2013. First, the two percent Social Security tax hike began the year. Now, gas prices are soaring ever closer to $4 a gallon and have jumped 51 cents a gallon since Dec. 20.

According to the Oil Price Information Service, the national average for a gallon of unleaded was $3.21.9 on Dec. 20, 2012. Today, that price is $3.73.0. While there has been a steady increase, prices shot almost 9 cents just over the weekend.

This President's Day also marked a full month of rising gas prices every single business day, following a very small early year drop. Gas prices began rising Jan. 18, from $3.29.3-a-gallon, and have soared since. If this increase continues, gas prices could threaten or even top the all-time high price of $4.11, set in 2008.

February 2013 saw record high gas prices for the time of year according to news reports. CNBC noted the national average was the highest ever for the time of year on Feb. 1. As of Feb. 11, The Los Angeles Times reported that the national average that day ($3.587) was also a record, "7.8 cents higher than the record for Feb. 11, set last year." Today's price is now 17.6 cents higher than 2012.

It took the media some time to catch on to rising gas prices, as "Good Morning America's" Josh Elliot said two weeks after the climb began that "we have just learned that gas prices have skyrocketed."

Those higher pump prices hurt consumers, who were already paying more for gas than in decades. The Energy Information Administration (EIA) reported recently that the average household spent more on gas last year, as a percentage of income, than it had in 30 years.

The Hill's Ben Geman wrote on Feb. 4, "the average household spent $2.912 for gasoline in 2012, which makes up almost 4 percent of pre-tax income, tying 2008 for the highest percentage in roughly 30 years." The media actually forecast falling prices in 2012, during the heated presidential election. Many of those predictions failed.

Gas prices have been at sustained highs throughout much of President Obama's time in office. Although there are many factors to gas prices, Heritage Foundation noted in August 2012, that "after three years of adding regulatory hurdles and blocking exploratory access and development, President Obama's policies are helping keep prices higher than necessary."

Yes, I know, gas prices are high, but compared to prices e. g. people in Europe have to pay... Germany is at 1,63 Euro per liter which would be $8,13 per gallon, England is roughly at $7,66, gas in Eastern Europe is cheaper than that, Western Europe is more expensive. For other countries look here:
http://www.kiplinger.com/article/cars/T009-C000-S001-gas-prices-around-the-world.html

Well, it does not make it better or less hurtful, but maybe makes you think about cars with a higher fuel efficiency or a hybrid.
