latimes.com — Reporting from Cairo and Washington - President Obama, calling for "a new beginning between the United States and Muslims around the world,'' said in a long-promised and widely watched address from Cairo today that the "cycle of suspicion and discord must end.''

Obama acknowledged the mistrust that the West and Muslim nations hold for one another: The "fear and mistrust'' in the United States stemming from the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, carried out by "violent extremists" and the alienation of Muslim nations bred by "colonialism'' and "sweeping change.''

Someone should have done their homework before they wrote that speech. "healing diseases'. You can't heal a disease-you cure it. Lettering and printing? How about Guttenberg-was he Muslim? The Muslims and algebra? I don't think so. Magnets and Muslims-oops-wrong again. We owe most of our culture to the Greeks and Romans. I forget what he said the Mulims originated by whatever it was it was around long before Muslims. I can't believe people are equating this speech with "I have a Dream." And how about talking about the destruction of 6 million jews and then saying "on the other hand we have these people wandering in the desert for 60 years looking for a permanent home (Palestine and Israel). How insulting is that to equate the horror of the loss of 6 million people with 60 years of living in a desert. Sorry, I don't think his speech cuts it. It certainly isn't going to change the minds of Hamas and the Taliban. I think his (prior) apologies have dimished this country in the eyes of our enemies and he is on another apology tour. Between the financial problems we are having and our presidenmt going around apologizing for this country it is only a matter of time before we are attacked.

All I heard spew form his worhtless mouth was "Blah, blah,blah, I hate America, blah, blah, blah, I love my muslim heritage, blah, blah, blah, I hate Christians, blah,blah,blah, I am going to beat all of you at destroying America!"

It was an excellent speech. But Jack3135, what the hell are you talking about. I understand, you can't heal a disease but everything else he said is absolutely correct. Al-gebra (Al is the Arabic word for THE) is from the muslims, the word we use DRUG comes from the muslims in medicine. So much of our knowlegde comes from them and the greeks. I just wanted to say, before you speak do some research dude instead of talking out your ass.

jack3135, just a warning there are a few people on this liberal poll site that think they know it all and will continue to brow beat you and tear you down. AUpolls is one of them. They can be pretty radical BO supporters and they will be shitting their pants when America is destroyed under BO's reign of thuggery as we are trying to warn them about , but then again "they do know it all and we are stupid". I'm just saying!

The speech did not go far enough, the speech had a lot of rhetoric hope he can convert it into deeds. My guess he will fail.
