Jimmy Carter: Wilson's Outburst "Based On Racism"

huffingtonpost.com — Former President Jimmy Carter said Tuesday that U.S. Rep. Joe Wilson's outburst to President Barack Obama during a speech to Congress last week was an act "based on racism" and rooted in fears of a black president.

"I think it's based on racism," Carter said at a town hall held at his presidential center in Atlanta. "There is an inherent feeling among many in this country that an African-American should not be president."

The Georgia Democrat said the outburst was a part of a disturbing trend directed at the president that has included demonstrators equating Obama to Nazi leaders.

"Those kind of things are not just casual outcomes of a sincere debate on whether we should have a national program on health care," he said. "It's deeper than that."

I am insulted that the radical left, and the liberal wing of the democratic party, would stoop to such measures as playing the race card in defense of Obama. I suppose that going forward that they will try to label anyone who speaks out against Obama's policies as a "racist" so they don't have to argue the merits of his positions.

3. those playing the race card is what they are doing "playing the race card", just like the right are doing "comparing obama health plan to socialism/nazism" does it mean you fail to see the wrong in what joe did?

4.there is a venue provided where joe can make clear his unbelief.

5. Come to think of it, using bush as a comparison, did any democrat act in such manner even when they clearly disagreed and didnt believe WMDs existed, a prerequisite for war, did obama himself act in such a manner to bush?
