republicanwhip.house.gov — House Republican Whip Eric Cantor (R-VA) today issued the following statement in response to reports that the Obama Administration was negotiating and agreeing to potential plea bargains with Umar Farouk Abdul Mattallab, the terrorist who tried to blow up a Detroit-bound plane on Christmas Day:

"Terrorists who come to our country to kill men, women, and children should not be given options when they fail. These murderers are war-time combatants, and are not equivalent to drug dealers, or thieves whom the government can choose to negotiate with for additional information on other criminals.

It amazes me how few people vote on simple but important polls like this one. Are they afraid that records are being kept and the communists will find out?

Actually what amazes me is that people don't understand the consequences of taking Miranda rights away. Imagine the label Terrorist implies that you have no miranda rights. The word 'terrorists' put fear in the hearts of people when it it's no different than murderer or criminal. The system works and we do not need to change it for different labels of criminality.

Jane60. Given you're name I was tempted to parrot the old john Akroyd routine from SNL but then realized you might be too young to understand it and would think I was ridiculing you. Actually, it would have been valid, though. Not sure I understood your point until the last part. The issue of not providing Miranda rights is not about getting self-incriminating information, it's because a captured Enemy Combatant may very well have information about another imminent attack. By allowing the Enemy Combatant to remain silent, we lose the ability to get that information. Check the other Poll on YouPolls, it is consistent with national polls; Americans would overwhelming approve Water Boarding for Enemy combatants. Not for revenge or for evidence in a trial but to get the information they have that could save lives.
