huffingtonpost.com — WASHINGTON - Slowly but steadily, support is building behind President Barack Obama's health care legislation in the House, the result of intense lobbying and politically targeted changes aimed at reassuring waverers and winning over critics.

Obama himself was to talk up the sweeping overhaul in a midday speech Friday in Virginia, his fourth outside-the-Beltway event in two weeks as he scrambles to rally the public ahead of a climactic vote this weekend. On Capitol Hill, congressional leaders were focusing on those rank-and-file Democrats, including moderates and opponents of abortion, who remained undecided after the release Thursday of a final package of changes to the massive 10-year, $940 billion legislation.

"Every vote around here is a heavy lift," House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., said. "We don't have a rubber-stamp Congress or a rubber-stamp (Democratic) caucus. So, we have our full airing of issues."

The White House and Democratic leaders trumpeted two new converts to their cause, as retiring Rep. Bart Gordon, D-Tenn., and first-term Rep. Betsy Markey, D-Colo., announced their support after opposing an earlier version of the legislation last year. Markey cited improved deficit cuts. Gordon said his backing was unrelated to a new provision sending higher Medicaid payments to Tennessee hospitals that treat large numbers of uninsured.

As rumors flew around the House chamber of more possible opponents-turned-supporters - and also of previous "yes" voters who might withdraw their support - Pelosi worked her members,

AU, if you knew anything about financial modelling you'd know that you can have a model produce any results you want by changing the underlying assumptions. For example, I can build a completely valid model of the cost of owning a car and have it show that after 5 years the car would be worth more than you paid for it. I simply assume inflation will be 30%. Now, that assumption would be easy to detect and would destroy the validy of the model. In the Health Insurance Reform Bill, they have many interlocking assumptions, which when put in together make the package look good. That's why the Dems don't want to break it up into individual peices; their assumptions would be exposed!

Finally, the Education Loan piece, which got added at the end, was the primary driver of the deficit reduction. That's why they added it. The GOP will try to kill that part of the Reconciliation in the Senate and thereby expose the real impact of the bill.

AU, if you are honest at all, read through this note and then spend a few minutes researching it. There are great articles about Progressives in Wikipedia. The Progressives have had an agenda for more than 100 years. This bill will be passed, whatever is required to do it and we will be one step closer to Socialism and eventually Marxism.

Here are some approximate statistics. I'll let the researchers verify them.

1. 36% of US voters self-describe themselves as Democrats, 33% as Republicans and the rest with minor parties or are Independent.

2. Cutting across the Parties, 42% are Conservative 36% are Moderate and 22% are Liberal.

3. Of the Liberals, nearly 40% also consider themselves more specifically to be Progressives. That is 8% of US voters who ascribe to the Progressive philosophy of Teddy Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson and Franklin Roosevelt.

4. One hundred House Members belong to Pelosi's Progressive Caucus and half Chair key House committees. 8% of US Voters are represented by 40% of the Majority in the House and 50% of the legislative committees in the House of Representatives. Many other Progressives are in the Republican House Caucus, as well.

5. I don't remember where I heard this but I believe it is essentially a true statement; Communists are Revolutionary Marxists and Progressives are Evolutionary Marxists.

The Bill will pass but unless your a hard boiled Progressive you will not be happy.

No one likes the bill, dude. Those who want to see it pass want to pass it not to kill it so that in coming time years upon years decades upon decades, dems among repubs this bill can be made better for the American People. Kick rocks. LOL!

No, you're really shown to me how dumb you are so I wrote bigger so that you could read it with understanding. I figure you must be an lonely old man, scared to death of change and the future that has long left you behind. You scared of things that aren't happening anymore socialism, commies, black panthers maybe. And, let me say it again so that you may hear, AND you believe that America's best years were in the past, maybe in your childhood, when all seem like wonderful with America. Now that you've grown up from a baby to the antonym of the words you hate "progressive" and "liberal". You don't like what might happen happening although you are still able to protest with freedom eventhough you believe your freedom is lost. I'll pray for ya.
