cnn.com — A day after his disparaging comments about America's civilian leadership surfaced and dramatically struck a nerve in the White House, the top commander in Afghanistan has stepped down.

President Barack Obama accepted the resignation of Gen. Stanley McChrystal "with considerable regret" and nominated Gen. David Petraeus, the head of the U.S. Central Command. The moves come in the wake of the revelation that Rolling Stone magazine would publish politically explosive remarks made by the general and his aides about key administration officials.

"It is the right thing for our mission in Afghanistan, for our military and for our country," Obama said, flanked by top civilian and military leaders, such as Vice President Biden; Adm. Mike Mullen, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff; Defense Secretary Robert Gates; and Petraeus outside the White House.

If a liberal Biden ) say a bad word its a mistake or mis understanding.
But a crime for any one out of the "close circle" of commies.
Crooks, commies, unpaid taxes, law suits & love affairs are alright - forgiven just a mistake.
The media & liberals will never ease off of conservatives.
Did they ever hear the old southern saying, sweep your own door step first.

I'm doing the happy dance. TWO guys fired by Obama, one was his hand picked choice...and then he hires the 'unqualified' guy, he said 3 years earlier made things in Iraq worse! Obama is booooosh.

How did Democrats treat Gen. Petreaus? President Obama's decision to give McChrystal his walking papers marks the
second time the president has fired the commander of American troops in
Afghanistan. A few months after taking office, Obama fired former commander
Gen. David McKiernan.

the leftist MoveOn.org greeted him with the title, "General Betray Us," which ran
at a vastly discounted rate by fellow liberal attack dog The New York Slimes.

Hillary Clinton told General Petraeus that his progress report on Iraq required "a
willing suspension of disbelief," all but calling Petraeus a liar.

And, of course, how did Barack Hussein analyze the Iraq strategy that Petraeus
championed?

"I am not persuaded that 20,000 additional troops in Iraq is going to solve the
sectarian violence there," he told MSNBC. "In fact, I think it will do the reverse."

What did Democrat Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid have to say about General
David Petraeus' competence to turn around a difficult situation in Iraq?

"Now I believe myself … that this WAR IS LOST, and that the surge is not
accomplishing anything"

Obama spent his entire seven minutes at the Petraeus hearing whining about
how awful everything Petraeus was doing was, in basic agreement with Harry
Reid's words of surrender:

He removes his hand-picked choice for someone he had no confidence in just 2
years ago." Yes, underemphasized in all of this is that McChrystal was Obama's
hand-picked choice, for whom the previously serving general, David McKiernan,
was unceremoniously removed. That switch was one of Obama's first major
decisions as commander-in-chief.

It is a further irony that Obama is surging with Petraeus despite not long ago
declaring that such a strategy and that Petreaus were failures in Iraq.

And it is an even further irony that he is now rightly calling for "common purpose" when - again not long ago, at a critical juncture in Iraq - Obama himself, for partisan
purposes on the campaign trail, had no interest in the common purpose of military success in Iraq.

p.s. the seven minute video of Obama insulting Gen. Petreaus and accusing him is on youtube...

@Freddd

Nag, Nag, Nag, Nag!

Your own party leaders are hailing the accomplishments of Petreaus and rightfully so. The Obama administration have gone a step further and has involved him as a leading advisor and actually listens to him, so unlike Bush.

McCrystal, best known as the engineer of the Pat Tillman "friendly fire" cover up was a left over of the Bush administration's incompetence and should have been gone since January 2009; yet the Obama administration gave him the leadership role in Afghanistan and supported his request for troops, drones and upgraded supplies. All with the understanding that he could successfully carry out HIS plans that would lead Afghanistan to the path of withdrawal. But, the fact is McChrystal couldn't cut the mustard. Even the troops didn't apprecaite his handling of the circumstances. He sabotaged himself with the interview so that he could be relived and not have to face the questions about his failure. Clearly, he knew full well that he was endorsing and encouraging disparagement of the civil command, which under the military code as written in the constitution he is subject to court-martial. No one is above the law.

He got off lucky.
