A $50 Lesson

Politics
I recently asked my friends' little girl what she wanted to be when she grows up. She said she wanted to be President some day. Both of her parents, liberal Democrats, were standing there, so I asked her, 'If you were President what would be the first thing you would do? '
She replied, 'I'd give food and houses to all the homeless people.'
Her parents beamed with pride.
'Wow...what a worthy goal.' I told her, 'But you don't have to wait until you're President to do that. You can come over to my house and mow the lawn, pull weeds, and sweep my yard, and I'll pay you $50. Then I'll take you over to the grocery store where the homeless guy hangs out, and you can give him the $50 to use toward food and a new house. '
She thought that over for a few seconds, then she looked me straight in the eye and asked, ' Why doesn't the homeless guy come over and do the work, and you can just pay him the $50? '
I said, 'Welcome to the Tea Party'
Her parents still aren't speaking to me.

Maybe you should've picked on someone your own age, to have a real debate. Idiot
We teach our children compassion and how to be giving, that's what American and American is all about.
Your example is not your typical problem in America. Giving this example show how dirty the Tea Party is.

Julia, I would argue with you but I think the little girl far surpasses you in intellect. Compassion is a positive and desireable thing but reality requires that we ensure that the object of our compassion is deserving!

James, I don't think you have it right, and if that were true the solution would have been much simpler to resolve.
My take on it is much more complex, and people tend to side with one thinking that their side has it right and the other side has it wrong. Well unfortunately I think the Constituent is the idiot because it's the influence of outside forces that have it. They and let's not identify "they" as that would also get people roiled up and debating over that issue.
Money is the force behind what goes on, our government today represents corporate america more than it represents you and I. oooops I must have identified they.
So who has the money?
The top 1, 2, 3% of America, they have more representation and the laws and rules they play by squeeze out the average american.
So NO James it's not about people who work or don't.
Things over time are getting stacked against the middle working class, and the people at the top have found a way to convince many people at the bottom that if we don't do well you guys down there will starve.

945call, I think you should add an answer "oversimplified but essentially realistic". You asked an excellent poll question in my opinion! The Tea Party does seem to inspire a lot of idealistic views, as do many Americans who express concern about poverty- including many liberal Democrats.
Kindness crosses the political spectrum in my experience. I have met kind people from many different political backgrounds.
Young children often display kind, idealistic and altruistic impulses (something all of us can still learn from them perhaps). It is often difficult as an adult to remain idealistic in a world filled with frequently negative media stories about issues and problems, but Jesus Christ famously stated "suffer the little children to come unto Me" and there must have been a reason for that point of view.
It remains so important for the kind impulses which inspire altruism and concern for the well being of other people to grow and thrive in our complex world.

So, how does the homeless guy know that you are willing to pay him 50 bucks for mowing the lawn, pulling weeds, and sweeping your yard? Maybe if he knew, he would do it...

Julia, your rude remarks and name calling give away your far left bleeding heart identity.
For the party that is supposed to be fair minded, YOU SURE ARE NASTY!
We teach our children to be self sufficient, to work hard and reap the rewards of their efforts, motivation, and ability. They are taught that charity comes from the heart, not from the government. Distribution of wealth is not an American dream, but the opportunities that are provided are.
(Unless you are a liberal, progressive, far left Democrat nut job and feel entitled to the fruit of someone else's work.)

Please have an adult read your posts before you submit them. That was probably the most sophomoric statement I have read yet on this site. I hope you don't actually have the right to vote!

945Call, aren't you continually amazed how so many of the liberal defenders on this site abuse the privilege of being stupid? It's very frustrating when you see how little they learned in their government school educations. Luckily most are too lazy to vote.
